I am currently running my 9850BE on an Asus Crosshair I nForce 570 @ 2.9ghz.
I'm not sure whether this can be compared to a mobo with HT 3.0 and stuff but atm I'm using a Zalman CNPS9500-AM2 (soon replaced by a Scyte Mugen) and 2 pieces of Crucial Ballistix 1GB DDR2-1066 clocked @ 800 Mhz (obviously boosted by the FSB to 928Mhz). Timings @ 5-4-4-12
I changed the HT multiplier from 5 to 4 so it doesnt go over the 1000 limit my motherboard gives me.

I've stressed it with Cinebench & 3dmark 06 so far and played several games for a few hours (CoD4, Crysis, Assassins Creed), all in Vista Ultimate 64 bit.

When i get my hands on the Scythe cooler ill go for the 3.0ghz.
Hope this information is helpfull in any way
Please share your thoughts with me, as I am also new to OC-ing.

Blace

Edit: While running Cinebench x4 benchmark it reaches 80-90 degrees celcius and quits the application as a precaution so I'm using a normal fan next to my opened case untill i get my Scythe
Idle temp is around 60 degrees now, full load about 75-80 (with the huge normal fan). So far it's looking good, I hope it gets through half a day of stress-testing later this week.
I've had a stable HT in the low 1400 range with a 5000+ BE on my Crosshair.
The old 1000 is relagated to the 939s, many AM2/AM2+ MBs can and do run stable in the mid 1200 to mid 1300 range and it even seems to help some members in the high end OCing

Cool, thanks for the advice. In that case I'll crank it up a bit when my new cooler arrives, I'm sure my memory can take it, lets see what the CPU does

I would just raise the Multiplier in AOD and see how high you can get it stable at stock vcore. I clock each core alone and have more success that way.

This is what I run for everyday computing:
Core0: 3.0 ghz, Core1: 3.1 ghz, Core2: 2.8 ghz, Core3: 2.9 ghz @ 1.42 vcore
I am actually trying that in AOD again.. I forgot the voltage I used last time, but my CPU does run cooler now that I reseated it and all.. Some reason when I have the volts at 1.412, it's really 1.392... 0.02 drop... (LOL, on my M2N-SLI Deluxe board, it's like 0.02 - 0.04 volts higher than what's set in the BIOS)

I am wanting to run this thing at something higher than 2.8GHz... I'm still playing around with everything... I'll try 1.45V if I have to...

What do you think is the max v this cpu can handle? I've heard of people running 1.5v, is it all dependand on the temperature?

I ran my volts @ automatic, and at some point everest showed me 1.5 @ a 74 degree temp, fairly stable. (now its about 1.4)

Well, I honestly don't know, but I do know I wouldn't want to push it higher than 1.5V. At 1.41Volts, With Core 0 and 1 at 2.8GHz, Core 2 at 2.7GHz, and Core 3 at 2.6GHz. Stress tested it, and ran it up to 123 Degrees Fahrenheit. I didn't bother changing it to see the Celsius because it was really late. I also didn't let it sit over not with the settings. Perhaps another night or two I will. I'd like to have all cores at 2.8 - 3.0GHz.

Running stable 3.0 Ghz (BIOS OC) now with 12.0 X MP, 250 Freq, 4x HT MP (so HT Link is 1000) and my ram @ 1000 Mhz.

My scythe Mugen (Infinity renamed) cools it @ 171 degrees F or 77 degrees celcius under 100% load. (@ 90 degrees celcius my system wil crash, or stop any high CPU applications)

The vcore is at 1.456.

It all seems really stable right now, I'm going to finetune my ram timings now and then stresstest it all with Orthos or something.

I'll post pics of the final OC later on.

Edit: keep in mind my motherboard is a Crosshair I nforce 570

That is too hot... you really shouldn't let it go over 60C. Let alone 70 plus.

What kind of cooling do you use?

Well, we're talking about full load Prime95.
Idle i'm running 60 degrees, gaming around 67 but never over 70 degrees.

With my previous cooler (zalman 9500 & artic S5 thermal grease) i used to have about 60 degrees idle & stock speed so i don't think 60-70 is a big deal for average to high load.

My new cooler is a Scythe Infinity, tomorow i'm going to mount 2 fans on it for better cooling and work on the airflow in my stacker 830 case since the fan-module housing 4 fans cannot close anymore with this beast of a heatsink.

I would like to know if running the cpu at these temps can cause damage to the cpu? Your advise is more than welcome. Keep in mind i plan to keep it between 60 and 70 degrees celcius, or lower ofcourse.

For now these are my last OC results, not going any higher with this setup, perhaps with water cooling in the future.

My honest opinion... I think you should keep the load between at least 55 - 62C or much less... but now I begin to wonder how hot the processors can go safely. Right now, my PC with the Phenom 9500... Voltage set at 1.31V in the BIOS (Power - Hardware monitor and CPU Z show 1.34V, and I don't know what speed I have it at... in BIOS it is getting 54C. (It's my PC with the Older Asus motherboard).

I use Stock cooling that came with my Phenom 9850 on my Phenom 9500, and a Zalman 9700 on my Phenom 9850. Soon I will have CoolIT System Eliminator on my Phenom 9850 and the Zalman 9700 on the Phenom 9500.
