I'm using the current drivers Nvidia has on their driver page: 169.25 WHQL

Here's a link to my model of the card: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130082

Try going to www.tweakforce.com and try some of their drivers. After using XtremeG drivers I can't stand Nvidia's.

Try running your cpu @ 2.8ghz (2.6 is stock) and o'c your gpu and see what happens.
I think your psu might not have enough juice?
You think this could be why? Because to OC my CPU I had to kick the volts on it up to 1.45v to run stable... Lol when I first tried overclocking it I tried tomshardware.com method and tried 3.20Ghz at stock... It wouldn't even make it to post lmao

the PSU has to be the problem, the 8800GTS requires I believe a minimum of a 450 if not a 480 watt PSU, you add OC'ing it, and OC'ing the CPU you have yourself a BSOD waiting to happen.

Ok I'll try this out... What PSU do you recommend?

Unlink the core/shaders in rivatuner and leave them at default for now. They are linked by default and some 8 series cards dont like really high shaders clocks. See if that fixes the instability.

oC's fine for me. Perhaps you are unexperienced. These OC just fine and it tears through crysis On high DX9 1600x1200.

A 500W PSU should be plenty to run that card, unless it is a very crappy PSU. I have a NZXT 500W power supply (most people say they are the worst) and I could run my older 8800gts 640Mb card and OC it fine without any problems. But, I guess it still "could" be the power supply.

I'm looking at the system requirements for the card and says this:

Minimum of a 400 Watt power supply.
(Minimum recommended power supply with +12 Volt current rating of 26 Amps.)

I've got a 500 Watt with +12 Volt rating of 15 Amps. So maybe this could be why?

My power supply I have has 16A on one rail and 17A on the other and I could run my 8800gts 640mb card fine. Your power supply (Thermaltake Purepower 500W) has 14A on one and 15A on the other. I would think you should still be fine with that, but I am not an expert on PSU specifics.
