[JonnyGuru] Ultra Sues for Modular PSU Patent - Page 15

Why do most folks think Ultra was slow with filing the suit?

The Patent only got issued in Nov. 2006, which isn't even a year-and-a-half ago. Obviously, Ultra isn't going to sue right away, since they first do what every logical thinking manufacturer would do: send out notices to others in which they offer to sell licenses, and in a later phase send out cease and desist letters (stop making modular PSUs, or else...).

The list of defendants does not include every manufacturer, so there clearly are some who bought a license and there are some who just stopped producing modular PSUs ( with this patent/lawsuit in mind, is it really a technical decision PC Power & Cooling doesn't make modular PSU, or was it maybe this whole thing after all?) Given the time it needs to negotiate with other manufacturers and to send cease and desist letters out (and give the others reasonable time to respond and indeed cease and desist), less than a year-and-a-half is actually quite speedy in my opinion.

From what I have read, Ultra has a stronger case than most folks here think they have.

Please read before attempting to make a fool of self. It was already stated that Ultra did perform due diligence and this is why it took a year to file suit. If you have no understanding of how justice system works.... HUSH! You don't just go around suing the moment you feel like it... This is getting absurd on the amount of baseless hostility towards Ultra.

Sorry, I thought the patent was issued in 2004 as someone had written earlier. My mistake. Your attitude towards my post was unnecessary though, a simple correction was all that was needed, not a smart ass remark..

Haha, I would feel honored if I was you, I think that may be the first time I've seen Duckie approach being mean in a post!

I think he as well as Chozart, JonnyGURU, are just venting frustration that the last few pages of this thread seem to ignore all those pages prior, as well as the details which form the meat of the topic.

If you read through my posts from the beginning of the thread, I have crossed over pretty much the full spectrum. I still think the patent itself is a bit on the cheesy side just based on my personal principles, but honestly now that I know the details Ultra is just as in the right legally as any other decent patent suit that I've seen.

Read through the other posts and see why. Everyone is jumping on the bandwagon to accuse Ultra for being the bad guy. You did the same. At this point, there is more than enough information to show that Ultra is just doing what it needs to do.

Sorry for singling you out but enough is enough with the irrationality.

Well I suppose I feel flattered then if he truly is just venting
Now knowing the date of the patent, it seems justified for a suit around this time (a year and a half is fast for a case), but I'm wondering how much warning was given? There must have been quite a bit of notification to the defendants about stopping their production right?

Ultra offered and still offers licensing. Also, at least one company seems to have stopped producing modular PSUs and this is probably due to a cease and desist letter. Also, the other company lawyers must have been aware of the patent pending as well. Like I said, due diligence seems to have been followed on Ultra's part. Read Jonny's posts....

WAY TO GO ULTRA
i love you guys.
no sarcasm.

you guys are awesome, screwing over such a long list of manufacturers. Now if you just build an affordable 800-1000W single 12v Rail PSU i'll actually buy your stuff.
