Help choosing from select mobo for OC of q6600 - Page 2

@propagating insanity - i'll see if i can try unlinked tonight and see what happens. Its nice to know that an LT board can get to 3.6ghz. =) Thanks for the info

@CapDubOh - yeah i like how the voltage you have is not all the way up to 1.5. I'll definitely let you know if i end up getting the MSI or not and if i get the platinum or diamond. Diamond right now is a bit expensive.

as of now i think i am leaning more toward the msi p7n platinum as a few reviews have shown that it can hit higher OC's specifically with the q6600 with relative ease.

The DFI board though is really nice too so i am kind of stuck between those 2.

A positive for both so far is most people report that the customized NB heatsink/fan that comes is much better than those on the reference boards like evga and xfx.

Anyone else have these boards that can give some ideas?

alright so i tried going to 3.2 and moving the fsb by increments since nforce boards sometimes have holes at certain fsbs. I got it to hit windows at 3.2 but it died right after i started up Everest.

I then moved it down to 3.0 ghz and it seemed fine but as i was browsing and going to newegg it suddenly froze on me.

I'm not sure if this could cause it but i have 4 gigs of ram in the machine. I've heard its harder to get high OC's with 4 gigs of ram for some odd reason. Its all OCZ but 2 gigs of it is platinum rev.2 and 2 gigs is reaper hpc.

I've tried bumping the volts all the way to the max for the cpu at 1.5v and the fsb at 1.5 also. My ram is at 2.1v as thats what OCZ says the ram should be at. And the SPP volt i have at 1.5 also just in case. with linked and unlinked, i couldn't seem to get even up to the 3.3 ghz level.

I think i am going to run prime95 all night at my stock settings and see if there is maybe a component error somewhere that is preventing it. If that isn't the problem then i am really gonna consider getting either the MSI p7n or the DFI.

If anyone can help out that would be great. Thanks a lot

bump

anyone have any other comments on those boards? or have any they could recommend for me?

I just want a good board that can OC a q6600 well
hopefully at around 3.6 ghz and within 1.4 to 1.5 volts.
Oh and it should fit a Tuniq Tower on it.
