MSI 8800GTX OC Edition Factory clock settings - Page 2

well... I got the card (brand new) for a mere $299.00. It's for a customer who only updates once every 4 yrs, so i was going for longevity for him. Yes, it does revert to stock speeds at reboot (I haven't set ATITool to load an OC on startup cause it won't hold a stable OC). It runs perfect at stock speeds though.

Huh yea it should be overclocked already. Does the box say overclocked version? It should overclock past standard GTX speeds. All a pre-overclocked model is, is a more expensive model of the same card you could have gotten for cheaper with stock clocks. Trust me I paid more for the eVGA 8800GTX Superclocked a year ago. Big mistake...

Use rivatuner to overclock and ati tool to scan for artifacts. That may make things easier

Yea, it says OC Edition on the box. I even had a buddy of mine who is a Re-Seller for MSI run the SN# number through their site and it came up as an OC edition. But it's not. Really though, 299.00 for a GTX is still a great bargain, it just pisses me off cause I didn't plan on having to attempt to OC thing thing as it was supposed to be OC'd already.

Just to follow up. I tested with Everest, RivaTuner, and GPU-Z, all showed stock GTX speeds. After a while of trying to OC it manually it only would get to 580/950. woo hoo.

Anyways, spoke with MSI and they said to definately RMA it back to them so they could replace it. Excellent Customer support over there. They were replying to emails within 2 minutes of me sending them.

Thanks for all the help and ideas guys!
