Apart from my current issues with actual frames being reported. Crysis can be MAXED right now...ok $1200+ on GPU's may sound ridiculous, but it can be done.

But i believe their conclusion is based on the average joe PC gamer, not the enthusiast. So in a sense they are kinda right.
I would put forth that spending $1200 puts you beyond the enthusiast level and into the dude-omg-look-how-much-money-I-have level.

Seriously though, $1200 is beyond what the vast majority of enthusiasts would pay for GPUs, so I don't think you can use yourself as an example of a prototypical enthusiast.

Anybody having trouble running crysis in vista just did not research enough.

There is no real visual differences between dx9 and dx10 for crysis. If you spot any real differences they are too small to care.

I got xp sp2 and vista x64 sp1 installed. When running the game in dx10 mode you lose a lot of fps, mainly because of crysis coding I think. You need to force run it through dx9 and it will run exactly like xp as long as you got the sp1 installed along with the latest nvidia beta drivers. I get 39.5 average fps in xp and I also get 39.5 fps in vista using the gpu benchmark. This is with a e2160@3.4ghz and a xfx 8800gt@800mhz @ 1680x1050

If I run very high dx10 i think i get around 20fps . Thats way too big of a fps difference to go with dx10 very high over what I use (dx9 high settings with a few commands to make it look like very high)

Just set in game options to High then add a system.cfg file to the root crysis directory then add these commands to it:

r_displayinfo=1
r_MotionBlur=0
con_restricted=0

r_driver=dx9
q_renderer=3
r_colorgrading=1
e_water_ocean_fft=1
r_sunshafts=1
r_ssao_radius=2
e_vegetation_sprites_distance_ratio=1.5
e_detail_materials_view_dist_xy=8192
e_detail_materials_view_dist_z=256
r_TexturesStreaming=0

So there you have it, I went from 20fps to 40fps in vista and I have taken many different screenshots trying to compaire the difference and I didn't see any at all, definitely nothing worth 20fps anyways

I didn't add r_usepom=1 to my system.cfg because i find it has quite a big fps hit and sometimes has weird graphical glitches and when im playing I don't notice the effects too much so I say its best to just leave r_usepom to 0

Yes I actually used it yesterday, I have it as a second boot just so that I can use it when I'm in need for the last 1GB of ram that I have installed, cuz I'd never go for WXP64 unless I have to. it's just that Vista took away the bottun I use the most. "The Folder button/Up" that goes for the previous folder, unlike the arrow that goes back and forward. kinda irritating when going in and out from folders and don't want to go all the way back into every folder untill you reach the upper ones.
So sorry for not being total aware when reading, English isn't my native lang as you know, it happens sometime.

I CAN come upp with countless stuff that makes Vista a good OS too, like the file handling when you copy alot of files and it don't stop the copy cuz one inky file don't want to be copied.
lol yeah fair enough.

and i think we can agree on that Folder Up button thing in Vista, but i've grown accustomed to their left hand menu instead.

we agree to disagree then
