My 320GB is dying I can tell. My HD smart monitor on startup tells me it is dying to back up my stuff. Which I already did and its getting slower and slower. Now I dont know what is wrong with it. My friend gave it to me a few weeks ago and I never messed with it. NOw that my 74gb raptor is getting Full I need somewhere to put stuff. Any programs to fix it? It wont do windows disk check lol. Its stays at 0%....

I dont want to rma it but if I have to I have to. the 320gb is dated July 20th 2007.

shouldnt be dieing that fast. could just be faulty or something, if nothing you try works, then why not check with the manufacturer. it could be under warranty or something.

cheers,

RMA. If S.M.A.R.T. starts commenting, it's hardware.

Magnets. REALLY BIG INDUSTRIAL SIZED uber-magnets.

Man that sucks. yeah, but if SMART says something about the HDD, it's done.

Sometimes things just fail, a friend went through 3 WD mybooks in 9 months! all he did was backups on them.

there is no way a program can save a hardware fault. That is just no possible. An HDD dying is hardware, and no software can fix a piece of faulty hardware (i.e. like a faulty transistor, motor, etc)

the mybooks are known to die early, I have run into a few of them.

Some say its heat, I think its manu defect.

Sub back yer junk up and get a new one, WD quality (IMO, esp the green line) has taken a big huge feces letting
