MSI P6N SLI Platinum very touchy, possible ground issue?

Thread Starter
I ordered a MSI P6N SLI Platinum along with a Q6600, a MSI N9600GT, and 4 1gb sticks of Kingston HyperX 1066 last week. I received the parts, and did my first build, only to be greeted with a very common problem with 650i boards -- LEDs, fans, everything would power on perfectly fine, yet there would be no video. While still in the case, I swapped around RAM and cleared CMOS probably 100 times to no avail.

I pulled out the motherboard, and set up a test bed configuration. This time, upon putting in 2 sticks of RAM, the board would start. I upgraded to the newest BIOS (1.6 I think) and brought the RAM up to their rated voltage, 2.2v. After I had done this, everything worked flawlessly -- it booted just fine with all four sticks.

I went to put it back in my chassis, a Coolermaster Cosmos, and after I screwed everything in I was exasperated to find the exact same problem. I testbedded one more time, and everything worked perfectly. I checked, and I couldn't see anything that could possibly ground out.

I then put the motherboard in a pseudo-testbed state, with it simply resting on the standoffs, only perhaps an 1/8th inch from lining up with the screw holes. Still, everything booted normally. Finally I pushed it the last 1/8 inch to line up with the screw holes and -- nothing. Same problem, booting with fans, LEDs, but no video.

I tried this with the grounding plate both installed and removed, but nothing. I even taped off the part of the video card's grounding plate that touches the chassis, which still did nothing.

I'm running out of ideas, which is why I came here.

it sounds like grounding, can you look with the mobo on and try to see under it...see if there is light?
