i thought this was interesting..sorry if this is a repost, i searched but got nothing. I thought i saw something on bad company recently on OCN but i couldn't get anything in the search.

We've gotten tips from a lot of you about the Sarcastic Gamer-fronted effort to boycott Battlefield: Bad Company, and we haven't posted about it until now for one simple reason: We don't get it. If you want to boycott a retail product, if you think that Battlefield: Bad Company isn't worth your $60 because content has been removed, there's a very easy way of dealing with that problem. Don't buy it. They're called market forces, and they work. If you need proof: How many times have you seen horse armor for sale since Oblivion tried it?

Do we like EA's idea of charging for individual weapons in an FPS, creating a gap (and it does despite what EA says) between the haves and have-nots? Of course not. But if you think the game is worth your money regardless, you should buy it and play it. If you don't want the extra guns, don't buy them. If that makes it less fun for you, don't buy their next game. It's as simple as that.

Sarcastic Gamer asked, "How, in good conscience, can EA take more money out of fan's pockets, who have already spent 60 bucks on the game?" Here's the answer: They don't have a conscience, they're a multibillion-dollar corporation that cares nothing for you. And it's not their job to care, it's their job to make money. It's your job to decide how to spend yours.

Lol, nice article. I do agree that battlefield has been going downhill though. 1942 was awesome, and when the DesertCombat mod came out it was pure amazing. Vietnam pretty much sucked. BF2 was okay, but not great. 2142 was okay again, but lagged pretty bad in the Titan games and is still kind of buggy. Now charging for upgrades? Pfsh.

Should boycott all of Electronic Arts games period.

I'm boycotting it because they still haven't fixed the issues BF2. They just expect us to pay them for the new thing even when they never fixed the old one. Then EA released 2142 VERY broken and still haven't completely fixed that one. EA will never get another dime from me.

dont even get me started with 2142. Its an embarrassment, there are modders with much higher skill level in making games.

The noob comments on this topic are through the roof, and there isn't even a second page.

Saying that there is nothing to play if you boycott EA (sniper) is ridiculous. there are tons of (in my opinion, better) games from other companies. Epic, Blizzard, THQ, to name the first ones in my head.

On a personal note, I enjoyed BF2.... when it worked. It would crash on me randomly, and I eventually stopped trying to play the game. This was across installations and patches, multiple attempts to play; and the game failed to work properly. Reading any topic about BF2 affirms the fact that BF2 was poorly coded and maintained.

I also know a man who worked on a minor title (Tiger Woods Golf for PS2) that said EA's management was tyrannical; the antithesis of a good company to work for. Pair that with glitchy games and bad QA, and you've lost the support of many competent gamers. In contrast to this article's writer, I believe that a company's public perception does have an impact on the sales of their products. A look at Microsoft, Google, Blizzard, etc. can back me up on that.

I find it interesting how tolerable the article is for EA being a "conscienceless corporation only in it for the money" while they seem to scold end-users for wanting their collective voice to be heard. They tell us gamers to voice with our pocketbooks, but find it puzzling that people would want to organize their voice in order to make it more coherent?

Finally, on a side note, I do believe it is an unfair advantage to get users to "buy" skills. That would be like (forgive me for using Warcrack as an example) getting users on WoW to pay an extra $5 a month to open up levels 70-80.
