Question about stepping on Q6600

Thread Starter
HI I'm new here so if this is in the wrong section, sorry and feel free to move to the right place.

About my question, I just recently purchased the core 2 quad q6600, after I paid I started finding articles on the G0 stepping and B6(? that right?) stepping. Mostly what I gathered there wasn't much a difference between the two(correct me if I'm wrong) other than slightly cooler and chance to OC higher.

Well I was looking at CPU-Z and Itel's CPU ID tool and noticed they are reporting different stepping. CPU-Z reports G0 and Intel says stepping is B and revision is B6.

So I'm confused now LOL, if I read right about the numbers on the CPU then I have G0 stepping, but I would assume Intel's CPU ID would be spot on with the chip. I do have it overclocked so I don't know if that would have anything to do with it or not.

Can anyone enlighten me? Thanks

If the numbers on the CPU say its a G0 and CPU-Z says its a G0, its a G0. The stepping will say B even on the G0 in CPU-Z. I dunno why intel would report it differently but CPU-Z is accurate I'm sure.

EDIT: Welcome to OCN by the way. Don't hesitate to ask us anything else.

The stepping was actually a big deal for Q6600. It went from a good chip to a great chip. Not that I'm partial or anything.

If you still have your box for your proc, you can look at the info tag on the end, if it has the number SLACR on it then its a GO

Don't step on your cpu! Your CPU loves you and you should love it!

The stepping reported by CPUZ is different from what we call stepping. Honestly I have no idea what it is, but it reports D for my M0 2180.
