NOOB 790i and e8400 Overclock

Thread Starter
Alright guys, just to give you a heads up, i'm kinda a noob to overclocking. I've never been able to overclock due to hp and compaq computers but finally built my own. Here are my specs so you have an idea
XFX 790i Ultra Sli - P03 bios
e8400
8800gt(one for now)
2gb corsair ddr3 1333mhz ram
150gb raptor and 500gb seagate, etc...
Well I was messing around just trying to get a stable overclock, my goal is to not exceed intels spec of 1.3625 core voltage. I'm trying to get as high as I can before I reach that or about 70ish degrees.
Right now i'm at 4Ghz w/ fsb at 1778 core voltage(cpu-z) at 1.232, prime stable(currently and hour at time of posting) with max temps around 58 deg. I need help trying to get it as high as i can without exceeding 1.3625. I'm trying to link my ram but keep getting errors and when i try upping the fsb any even when raising the voltage. I'm not quite sure what i need to set the ram at to link it, ie voltage and custom timings if needed.
Any help would be great, and sorry for the life story!!!

first of all why the hell would u by 1333 Mhz ram when it won't match ur fsb:ram ratio. Trade it for G.skill pc6400 DDR2 800. Set the aspect ratio to 1:1. Did u try upping the MCH northbridge voltage or FSB voltage yet.

XFX n790i SLI is a ddr3 motherboard...and you should have bought at least ddr3-1600( and actually use its potential ) to notice a difference between ddr2 and ddr3 because ddr3 uses much higher latencies.

4Ghz is a fairly good overclock for an E8400. Can I ask what type of cooling you are using?
the corsair ram can and will overclock to 1600mhz with a little voltage.

I bought it so I can upgrade down the road if I want to. Also I am using a Tuniq Tower 120. Everytime I try linking it and adding voltage, it wont post. I think I have to change the timings, but thats getting over my head. Thats where I need a little help. It has it at 1066 by default, but is rated at 1333, when i link it with my fsb, it puts it around 1400, so i'm not sure what i have to do to link it? any help?
Try unlinking it and setting it to what you have it at now, then pump the fsb and vcore up and the ram will stay the same and won't be hindering your cpu overclock. Once you get the cpu clock dialed in you can start to mess with the ram clock and timings.

alrighty thanks. also do you, Xecuter2, or anyone know how to do custom timings with my or any ddr3 ram. Also, will i be able to overclock my ram to around 1500. The custom timings, there are 2 sets in the bois, it getting a little over my head, and i dont want to ruin anything

Dont know what type/series your mem is, but the ones I found are rated Latency: 9-9-9-27 2t@1333mhz ( http://www.ebuyer.com/product/130430 ). Wich isnt that fast if you ask me... You could try 9-8-8-22 2t..but dont know what type/series you have...
