Remote access - which soft?

Thread Starter
Hey,

I would need a remote access software advice, freeware if possible.

The OS of the accessed PC is XP pro and the OS of the PC from which I want to access is Vista x86.

I would use windows' RPC if I knew how to configure it to communicate between a Vista and an XP PC, any help on that?

Thanks!

Try VNC - you'll need to install the server program on the computer you want to connect to and the client on any computers which will connect to it.

I perfer UltraVNC - http://www.uvnc.com/

Check the link in my sig As long as the computers are XP Pro, and Vista Business or Ultimate, it will work.

Are you trying to communicate with a computer inside a private network or are you trying to remote into your box from outside of your network? TS'ing using RPC is a good solution for most applications, internal or external. If you are attempting to remote in from outside your LAN, you just need to forward the RPC port (which you can also change in the registry) to the PC's IP address you are trying to attempt. Internally, I use VisionApp - AWESOME FREEWARE. For console solution, Dameware is the standard.

Unless something has changed with Vista (I haven't used it), it doesn't matter what version of the O/S you have on either box to get into any of the windows PC

I use logmein quite frequently and i love it, really easy to use, you get a free months trial with the pro where you can download anything from one pc to the other but after the pro month free trial its just the free one which lets you remote control but not download, still its free and works really well, very secure aswell..also it has to be installed on both computers, and you can add asmany computers as you want, even on the free one ive got 3 computers on it.

RDP is the easiest. You don't need to do much of anything if all you are trying to do is access the XP machine and not vice versa. Make sure to enable Remote Desktop in the computer properties and youre all set.
