Are you using Vista 64 bit? If not, you need to.

Also, in your bios, there's a setting called "Memory Remapping". Be sure to enable this for the bios to recognize all of it.

Get a 64-bit OS.

A 32-bit OS can only handle 4GB. Your OS reserves around 600-800MB for the devices. Your video cards uses 1GB.

4GB - 500MB - 1GB = 2.5Gb

The graphics card takes up a GB of the ram that a 32-bit OS can handle? I thought that the system ram was handled independently and that up to 4GB of system ram would register... Well, that blows.

Will the pc still run as well as having 4Gb of system ram and an integrated gfx chip? Or is that other 1.5 Gb just wasted?

Not exactly, but it does for you. For example, if you only had a 256mb card, you'd see a lot more. I only get 2.3gb. But I'm getting x64 so its all good.

If you want to see exactly where all your memory addresses are going....

Open Device Manager.
Select "View" and choose "Resources by Type"

This will give you exactly how much memory each device is using. Just convert the hex values to decimal. Currently, 000A0000 to 000BFFFF is being used by the IGP Plugging those hex values into the MS calculator, I get 655360 to 786431. This means that the IGP is using this 128KB sector of memory. If you look, you'll see the IGP is using other sectors as well.

How well does the 64-bit OS run nowadays? Are all the drivers working as well as I've heard with recent updates and fixes? I thought the 64-bit drivers were terrible at release.
