new system need advices

Thread Starter
Well, i want a dual core that can play TF2 and newer games OK.

- the new dual core, (E8400, or preferably E8500, i think this is the one that was beating the q9300 in every benchmark) (unlesss the q9300 is better and same price)
- 2 or 4 gb ddr2-1066

The rest is up to you, im not really picky. it needs to be the cheapest possible (that doesn't mean i want a ****ty computer). But im on a really tight budget, and i must pay the school for my class in january or earlier.

-Whatever DVD/CD combo burner
-8800 GT are still expansive, but is it necessary ?
-Capable of handling high resolution pictures without lag (im a photographer, too)
-HDD: WD500AKKS
-Monitor: Samsung 17" LCD, cheap but good quality (had 5 broken lcd monitor with ACER, hate them.)

So, that's quite what i need. As you can see,I don't need a killer mobo, i wont o/c the CPU, unless there's an automatic features..but even then, maybe not. It's sure tempting, if the CPU can o/c well with an OCZ Vendetta 2. But still, there's the warranty issue. It all depends if I can get alot of mhz.

It's not completely a gaming machine, I need it for basics task and internet too. So I don't want to go SLI GTX and a 400$ MOBO.

I'll see what it will cost, if the cost is to high to built that dual core machine, ill wait for a quadcore later.

The goal is that I want an up-to-date machine, that runs everything well. But not a killer gaming machine.

EDIT:

Things I need...

Case w/ 1 sidecase fan
1 80mm fan under psu
PSU
MOBO
Video Card
RAM
HDD
DVD/CD-rw combo
Monitor
OS (windows viata home premium 64bits i guess)
FLoppy

I would look at least at a 19" monitor, or preferably a 20". Not that much more money, and you'll love the extra space and higher resolutions, esp. with photo editing.

lag during high res photo work? I hope you're joking
any system, even a single core, can do that.
I would go with either the 8800gt or the 9600gt.
You want to get 2x2gb if you're going with 4gb, which you will probably need if you do lots of photo work/3d work at once.
if you already have the monitor, stick with it. Otherwise get a 20". I'm using a 17 right now though
I would get an e8400 and overclock it, 'nuf said.
Motherboard: mostly preference, but if you want SLI you have to get a 6x0i or 7x0i chipset. Intel chipsets clock better.

I agree with above posters. e8500 is a few steps up in price, so e8400 makes sense. btw: e3110 is supposedly the same chip, some places it's easier to find, some places it's cheaper too.

as for the 8800gt vs 9600gt, I think the 8800gt is a touch better than the 9600gt. Price wise I see no difference between the two.

edit: oh, and you should buy this. It's 46 inches which should be big enough, and only costs $4 000. I think there is a MIR for $15...

Thanks ill look at it. Love it when plp shows the price and total, but whatever.

I need a case and 1-2 80mm fan, too. At least a generic case with a side fan and one fan under the psu.

Oh no!

Are you good at shoplifting? Maybe more of a hold-up kinda guy? maybe identity theft and mail fraud?

Chin up! You have options!

serious note:
Is your 8800gt costing that much? You mentioned a 300 dollar difference once you added the vid card. I hope you can get that card a bit cheaper..
