My first OC?

Thread Starter
This is my first OC attempt and would like some input.
3.03 is the best Ive been able to get (stable anyways).

System Info

CPU Type Athlon 64 X2 CPU Alias Brisbane CPU Stepping BH-G1
CPU Speed: 3031.9 MHz (original: 2200 MHz, overclock: 38%)
CPU Multiplier 11.0x CPU FSB 275.6 MHz (original: 200 MHz, overclock: 38%)
HyperTransport Clock 1102.5 MHz
Memory Bus 433.1 MHz
Memory Timings 5-5-5-15 2T

I just want to know if theres anything else I could do to get it up to that 1Ghz OC mark. Ive increased my Voltage for the Processor to 1.55 ( max my board allows ) I had the NB/SB at + .2 or .02 volts I can't remember I had my mem volts to + .15, I even had my mem and HT at there lowest settings.

I can get it to 3.25 but its not stable at all the system fails Orthos in the first min...

That's about how far most non be brisbanes oc. Might get 3.1 underclocking ram and loosening timings, but then it won't be an oc you would want to use 24/7.

Quite right with a few exceptions. Some G2's can get a bit higher. Seeing as you have a G1 by all means go for more but don't hold your breath.

3 GHz is pretty much the target to shoot for on AMD chips. If you had a 5000+ Black Edition, maybe 3.4 or so, but 3 GHz is still pretty good, and I wouldn't expect much more out of it.

*** are you talking about? I have supported AMD since I got into computers. I had a Venice, an Opty 165, and a Brisbane. My AMD board didn't support Vista, so I figured I might as well go Intel, to avoid being called an AMD fanboy (which i have been for most of my time here).

It is not a false statement. Most AMDs hit around 3 GHz as a decent spot to aim for. Some of the Black Editions get higher. I said that. I had 3.1 GHz on my Brisbane for most of its life. I have seen guys get 3.4 or so on air, but short of Water or something more elaborate, 4 GHz just isn't going to happen.

A 3 GHz AMD chip will perform plenty well for anything the average user, and even most gamers, can throw at it. Sure, you may see a few FPS difference in Crysis, or SuperPi times, but who cares? I have noticed very little difference, in my every day use, between this setup and my Old Brisbane with an x1950Pro. The video card upgrade definitely gave me a boost for games, but I don't think the CPU upgrade really did much other than pad benchmark scores.

Before you come in trying to bash someone who has been here way longer than you, get your facts straight. Up until about 2 months ago, when I got Vista, I was strictly AMD, and I fully intended to stick with them to the bitter end. If I hadn't needed to switch motherboards in the first place, I would still be on a Brisbane right now, or perhaps a Phenom.

Once the Phenoms are shown to OC decently on a semi-regular basis, and once Quad Cores are more supported, it is my full intention to go back to AMD. I am the farthest thing from an Intel fanboy you can find, who actually uses an Intel CPU. If you check some of my older posts, I often support AMD, and I am often the one trying to keep the REAL Intel fanboys at bay.

I agree with pow3rtr1p, 3GHz is about the max for most AMD chips, especially the older revisions. The newer 5000BE, 6000 and 6400 can hit 3.2-3.5 but I don't see 4400's going over 3.0-3.1.

To the OP, you have a great overclock there, lots of AMD users can't even break the 3.0GHz barrier. One thing I noticed is your memory is only 30MHz over spec, I don't think you need to loosen your timings to 5-5-5-15. I bet you can tighten them up to 4-4-4-12, give it a try!
