Help setting up site for access from the internet...

Thread Starter
Ok, so i've set up a site using Apache, and I can access it using localhost. HOWEVER, I STILL can't figure out how to access it using my external i.p...

I need it set up quick, and it must be from my computer because I need to host a video file for a project on it, and youtube just downgrades the quality too much...and my upload speed is really slow...

bottom line is that I need help setting up my site to be accessed using my external i.p.

thanks, and aim me at liquidsnake6542 if you would find it easier.

Set up port forwarding on your router (port 80) to point to the apache server internal IP address.

Is your ISP using a dynamic IP address? If so you could always use dyndns.com

Check you don't have a firewall running that is blocking it (software or hardware). Also, if your upload speed is bad, serving stuff by yourself isn't going to improve things. Remember, if you can only upload at 40kbps, say, people can only download at (less than) that, and if more than one person is accessing at once, they can only get 20kbps each, etc...

i disabled my firewall and tried to run it, but the same thing happened.

it's not gonna be a big site..its more of a personal site..just for one day... just for a project at school, and i wanted to set up the site so it could be seen without downloading anything.

Are you running off a business account? If not you probably have a dynamic IP. Who is your ISP, what are you using to host your DNS?
what router do you have?
what is your computers LAN IP?
what Port did you forward to what IP and to what port using what protocol?
