[tcMag] G.Skill equips new memory kits with 'Pi' heatspreaders

Thread Starter
'Pi' heatspreaders.
Quote:
Coming straight from strenous schooling sessions, Pi or π has now been included in G.Skill's latest cooling solution, which is used on a heap of new DDR2 and DDR3 memory kits. Designed and planned for use with mid-range and high-end memory, the Pi series heatspreaders make use of quite a bit of aluminum and claim to be able to increase the air contact surface by 100% and lower the temperature of the little DRAM chips at least 20% to 30%, when compared to "traditional" designs.

The new memory kits equipped with the Pi heatspreaders are:

If the RAM stays at the same price and just has new coolers. Well I am down for it.

Looks cool. I think it's more of a marketing thing though, really. I've never had a DIMM overheat on me. They're never even been that warm to the touch.

My rig, Umbra (below) runs 4 Ballistixs PC28500 with timings of 4-4-4-12 @ 1065MHz. with voltages @ 2.25v in BIOS (yet pc probe reports it @ 2.29v)

If i don't run my rig with the Dominator RAM cooler, my mobo temps exceed 150 fahrenheit (65C) and i cannot touch my modules heatsinks without a serious burn. Occasionally my system wont boot enless that cooler sits over my ram too.
