Quick question

Thread Starter
Can someone tell me the difference between the different AMD sockets, ( which is the most modern) and any ideas of the best value AMD processor for around £50, as am looking to build a new PC.

The differences are in the pinouts, where the blank spots are located, and the amount of pins. IE, socket 939 and AM2 are very close, however the am2 has one extra pin, and the spacers are placed differently. A s939 cpu will not work in an AM2 board and vice versa. AM2+ and AM2 are basically identical, its just the hardware/software on the motherboard wihch determins if its an AM2+ or even if it supports an AM2+ cpu. BIOS and NB are strong factors to be considered by the company if they would like to shove an AM2+ cpu on to a non-natice AM2+ motherboard.

the best you can expect for thet sort of money is the 5000+ Brisbane core(not BE) if you can find anywhere that still stocks them. But you would be better off going for something like this and spending a bit more money.
