Vista x64. Is a few FPS really that big of a deal? It has DX10 and XP doesn't. Plus, in general it runs 100x better than XP ever did (for me at least, ive had no problems with Vista x64, runs great if you have plenty of memory, and memory is super cheap).

XP owns everything except for games that have DX10. If you buy newer graphics like um 8800 GTX get vista if something like 7950 GT get XP. The biggest problem in vista is performance, and memory lacker. Once you boot you'll see that almost 1 GB of memory is tooken up but it's not a big deal since memory is kinda cheap. But I strongly suggest XP since microsoft is making improvements on it.

EDIT: Or try both OS and see which one fits for you.

Well said. And pwns the XP lovers.

XP crashes, freezes, gets currupted faster, has security issues that Vista has taken care of, smoother and sexy GUI, Widget bar, DX10, no down time with stability, runs all the older programs I've thrown at it flawlessly.

Q6600, 4GB, Vido card of a 8800GT or better and your in total heaven.

Anyone that tries to say otherwise is wrong. Plain and simple. Don't bother even trying to argue with what I just said either as you will not change my mind.

No doubt this must be a real bad XP install, the OS is actually quite stable. Vista is too as a matter of fact - vista's problem are drivers, but anyone can google before installing it if all the parts are well supported.

As for which is faster in gaming, I would bet no one could tell with the naked eye and this is what matters after all. We should judge what we can perceive as being a difference, not 300 3DMark points.

I would underline that Vista as MrSpock said NEEDS 4GB of ram in any flavor to be competitive with a 2GB XP.

Well I guess I never thought of it that way... Thanks for actually commenting. I guess I love Vista too much that I'm biased.

No problem, since I got 4GB of ram I happen to like VISTA too, even tho I wasn't much of a fan before. SP1 did its wonders too.

Yeah well I think id just be better off installing ultimate 64 since the change will happen sooner or later....unless windows 7 rocks the gaming scene...

Guess ill still have to try my benchmarks since its gonna be hard to find accurate performance ratings on XP Gamers edition..
