I will give them credit for that - my brother-in-law has one of their iPod "Sound Dock" things or whatever it's called that sounds really good. Their little mini devices like that sound pretty good for their size.

I have a pair of Bose TriPorts. I like them a lot. They have good bass and mid frequency response I find, which is good because my Zune doesn't have EQ to boost those up when lacking. They're wicked comfy, and they block out noise really well. I got my pair for free, so I'm not sure if it's worth $150 to me, but they are nice phones. Hell I'm still sad that there's not enough room in my house for my dad to set up his mid-80s set of Series IV 901 speakers. Those things sound killer!

EDIT: And just so people don't call me a fanboy, there are Bose products I don't like. Their earbuds suck. My friend (with way too much money) claims that he's got the perfect setup with an iPod Touch, Bose buds, and a Bose Soundock. I just laugh about how for all the money he paid, I got my Zune, my Ety ER-6 buds, and a 200W stereo receiver with pretty decent parts. My setup probably cost $400 bucks less than his.

i buy sennheiser, akg, grado and beyerdynamic because i see them in music studios in the current in the past and i know music artists only want the best representation of the real world as possible. i have never seen bose in a music studio ever!

So... in all honestly, is there anything in the BOSE lineup that doesn't "suck"? (price versus performance/value).

Seriously, Bose makes alot of money based on its name... to folks who think that they are getting quality stuff just because Bose put their stamp on it.

In their modern consumer lineup, I'm not aware of anything. Vintage (pre-1985 or so) Bose kicks ass - that is the era that they built their name in, and for the most part it's well deserved. Thier current PA and sound reenforcement gear is OK... There is a lot that is worse than it, and also a lot that is better. I think that generally their special-application setups (such as car systems) are passable.

i agree with CHIPP, bose made a name for themselves in the early 80's, i can remember them being the 'mutts nuts' when i was a teenager, but they have just traded off that high til this day, i dont see many good reports about them now...

you have to bear in mind though, at that time OFC speaker wire and interconnects where rare, and VERY expensive. if you had a technics seperates system it was considered pretty good and well above the average, remember, that was the time betamax and vhs where fighting it out like blu-ray and hd-dvd are now....

My father has a sennheiser PX100... I have to say they are OK, But WAY too much bass... very boomy sounding...

I personally love my Koss Porta-pros...

But both the PX100 and Porta-pro sound as good as if not better than the Triport being half the price.
