Computer just locks up (vista)

Thread Starter
Hey I have 32bit vista recently my computer has just locked up on random occasions, the first time it happened it was in a game and I thought my graphics card over heated or something so I turned off my pc and left it for a while and tried powering back up all went well until it got to the windows loading screen and nothing happened so I kept tampering with the pc and restarting until it worked, the 2 other time were when I was doing virtually nothing on the pc and the mouse just locked up and my music playing the same bit over and over again until I pressed the power button and took about 10 restarts to get the pc to load up into windows.
Does anyone know what this problem is?

Umm it could be ur hard drive dying. Try taking out the HDD and put it back in and reseat cpu, heatsink/fan, ram and all. If it doesn't fix it try finding driver updates or doing a fresh install on vista.

Let's ask the obvious question here first. Are you overclocked at all? If so, you should roll it back to stock. Random freeze-ups can be attributed to an unstable overclock.

That experience that your having is caused because of some sorta of stability issue, not with your Vista OS but with memory or like they said with CPU. Your problem is not your video card, because when a video card overheats and crashes it just freezes, no sound looping or it will give a BSOD which your not getting. First thing is first, you must go to your BIOS and set it to defaults. Now try it.

If its still happening, then you have to go to device manager and hard disks and basically disable the write caching, take off the check or all checks.

After doing all this get back to us. One step @ a time, the good thing is its not your hardware going bad nor is it a OS issue. Well get you sorted out.
