Help 9800GTX vs 9800GX2

I need help..

I have an 8800GT 512 right now...

From what I understand the 9800GTX is about 7% better than the 8800GTX, being a newer revision of the 8800GTS (a GTS on steroids, It was worded).

Apparently the 9800GTX overclocks nicer, runs cooler, takes less power.

Costs only about 350 for me at a local vendor.

Then there's the 9800GX2.

From what I understand it preforms close to (and sometimes better than) the 8800Ultra.

Also I've heard it's essentially two 8800GTS's in one.

It's been said that this card is the best dual-gpu card out on the market.

street value in my area: 585.00 + tax.

With my current setup, the 8800GT 512, which should I get? The 9800GTX is obviously great pocket wise, but the GX2 clearly breaks the bank.

I clearly also can't go SLI with my mobo, so that's why I'm looking at single cards only.

Should I just get the GX2 and suck up the price, sayin "it will be worth it in the end?"

Or will the 9800GTX be the price/performance i'm looking for?

HELP?!?!

Rep+ 1 for all those who help.

Your GT is at 660/1750/1000 and a 22" lcd. Are you happy with your GT? If yes, I would stick with you 8800GT for now. Otherwise, get a $200 G92 8800GTS and then 9800GTX.

The only real difference etween the 9800gtx and the 8800gts (512) is speeds. Some stock overclocked gts512 outperform the 98gtx out of the box.

The gx2 is in fact 2 g92s with 128 shaders each, and slightly lower clocks. it does a bit better than 2 stock gts512s in sli, but wont overclock quite as well because of the space.
You wont see much difference between a gts512 and a 98gtx (if any) once the overclocking is done, so i suggest a gts512, unless you can afford the gx2.

Drivers are still an issue with the gx2, but that will likely get smoothed out.

What sort of games are you looking to play? I would suggest comparing the benchmarks on each card.

Anyway imo i think you should save your cash... the 9xxx series isnt much of an improvement, and for most games right now the 8800GT should be performing fine at 22", another option might be to snag one of the 8800GTS that are out for only $200

Nonetheless, if I had to pick between one of the two, i would choose the 9800GTX.

yeah I play counter-strike: source, and crysis at 1280x1024 right now.

I'm thinking i might get the eVGA 9800GTX with the step up program that way I can always get the GX2 if I want to later. (or for when the 9900 series comes)

That explains the upgrade.

But yea the step up shouldn't be a bad idea, pending Nvidia releases the GT200 in 90 days

FYI, the 9800GX2 is MUCH more powerful than an 8800 Ultra.

I would say to get a GX2. I know they are getting bashed but I blame the drivers. The GTX has a nice price tag but IMHO if I had the cash I would go for the GX2.
