Question regarding lapping an e6750

Thread Starter
Hi all,

Okay, if I run out of projects this weekend I was thinking of lapping my e6750. I picked up the glass from my local fish store and I plan to lap both the CPU and the HeatSink (arctic freezer 7 pro). My question is that I've read about people putting water/oil/other liquid on the sand paper. Do i need to do this? If so, which should I choose. Any other tips or help would be greatly appreciated. I'll see if I can post some pics when I'm done. Thanks!!

Kurt

i wouldnt do that for a CPU. Heatsinks are cool with water. but you risk to much doing it with wet sandpaper lapping a cpu. dry will work fine. it just wont last a long

Using oil or water is just to make sure the object glides over the paper smoothly. It also can help speed up the process. You can do it dry or with some liquid on the sandpaper - personal preference is all.

With a CPU, take care but I've done it with oil when lapping a CPU in the past. Just make sure to have the backside covered and edges taped over.

Thanks Guys,

I think I'll go dry sanding. Should I cover the CPU anyway while sanding?? Thanks again

I used masking tape on the contacts, then electrical tape, and shoved press-stick in the whole on the IHS...

Lol, yeah, I've seen pics of it prepped on some other threads. With my baby Q6600, I was super nervous and did not want to take any chances.
