The 12V LED Molex Mod

Hey everyone. I've seen this done before, and i tried it but none of my LEDs turned on.

Basically you have 3 x 3.7V LEDs in series connected to the molex of your PSU and they should all equally distribute the voltage and light up.

I have attached a bitmap of how it should BASICALLY work.

Does anyone know who to actually do it?

Well for one, you need a resistor in there, LED's theoretically have no resistance, so without a resistor they won't work at all. The size of the resistor will determine the amount of amperage that passes through the LED's.

nah see since they're in series it should share the 12V rail...

so divide that by 3 = 4

theyre 3.7V but can withstand small excess voltages such as 0.3V

but still leds need a resistor, they'll burn out without one and well yea it should work, just add a resistor in there.

hmm, the guy at jaycar electronics said its not needed.

What resistor would i need in this situation?
3 x 3.7V UV LEDs on a 12V rail

try this led resistor calculator http://www.hebeiltd.com.cn/?p=zz.led...tor.calculator but i have loads of these 100 ohm resistors lying around, i always end up using these wherever i install leds and they seem to work everytime.

V=IR

3.7 * 3 = 11.1V drop.
Supply voltage is 12V.

L.E.D's generally want 15 mA = 0.015A

(12V - 11.1V drop) / 0.015A = 60 ohm resistor

so you want a single resistor as close as you can to 60 ohms basically wired in series with the LED's.

wiring a single 100 ohm resistor will give 9mA (less bright)
