If you are using a resistor, it doesnt matter if the resistor is on the positive or negative side- it will drop voltage and work either way.
Maybe, mine have never lit without a resistor regardless of how many I put in a series. I know there's different kinds, some I got at walmart would work either way, but ones I bought in bulk, if they werent all facing the same direction they wouldnt light.

ok the reason it didnt work is because in the diagram (wich if you followed the way youve drawn it just wouldnt work because its wrong, wire it up like this and it will work.

Sorry, you are wrong- His diagram is correct/ yours is ALSO correct. Yours is what we call over engineered; it will get the same outcome, but will cost more, use more current and make more heat.

yeah yours is exactly right, just place the resistor before the first LED, and use the yellow on the molex and it'll work.

I just tried 4 LED's in series and one blew the end right off it. I also tried 3 in parallel and they went on for a very short time and did nothing after that. Both tests were with 12V.

What are the specs on your LEDs? Also, all LEDs are NOT created equal. I tried with 3 and 4 on my bench and they worked, but mine are very high quality LEDs.

EDIT: You cant run them in parallel off of 12v without resistors, only in series where they each drop 1/3 or 1/4 of the voltage. If they are in parallel, you are giving them all 12v.
