Only thing i managed to do was get Both GX2's fan speeds set to 100% via Riva, that's gotta be a first using Vista X64.
how'd you do that?

Hmmm well if both cards are good like you said, then it really must be some people are lying to you about their performance?

Well, continuing on in my quest to resolve what the hell is going on with regards to Quad SLI i tried two different ideas.

1:
I ruled out my wall socket extension, i did hear something about how they can interfere with power draw from the outlet to the PSU. So i plugged the system directly into the wall outlet. Nope....same problems...so that's not it.

2:
I thought hey i may as well try and rule out my PSU as being the culprit. So i got hold of a lovely 600watt PSU that powered the CPU/MOBO/RAM/2HDD's and a DVD Writer and obviously supplying the power to the GPU's via the PCI-E 2.0 Slots. Out came the my mighty Silverstone Decathlon with it's HUGE 70amp single rail and was used to power the 2x 9800GX2's in Quad SLI and a 3rd HDD. And guess what?.......same performance as before. So my PSU is not the problem. Even though i thought all along this certainly wouldn't be the case but hey i was curious.

So, where does this leave me?

The mobo? I cannot for one second believe it's the mobo. Firstly, the previous 780i performed just the same before i killed it (my fault i was clumsy). I also tested as mentioned earlier in a 680i chipset, and yet same results.

The only thing i can come to the conclusion on is:

The SLI Bridge.....and typical i don't have a spare one. Well i do, a TRI SLI bridge that's no use for 2x9800GX2's and another hard SLI bridge which is like 2 inches to short for the GX2's. So is my Asus Flexi SLI Bridge the issue? I'll update ASAP.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with your hardware, if your current sig system specs and overclock are up to date. A Core 2 Quad @ 3.0Ghz is going to heavily neuter four G92 GPU's. Only when you overclock your CPU more, and raise the resolution above 1920x1200, will you start to see a real difference.

Obviously 1920x1200 is your monitor's native resolution and you cannot go higher, so with this in mind try throwing the AA and AF up to their very maximum and run the Crysis demo again. Two passes for one 9800GX2 and then another two passes for 9800GX2 SLi. I recommend running it twice as the first time round data is often loaded into RAM on the fly, the second time round, data will already be there.

I did start doubting my own thoughts on CPU speed based on resolution (ie; bottlenecks at CPU bound resolutions). Partly influenced by how 3DMark06 is influenced by CPU. In fact, this doesn't apply with Crysis in my testing.

I ran my Quad @ 2.4 and upto 3.33Ghz with no difference in frames regardless of resolution or details. My brother recently purchased an XFX 8800GT Alpha Dog to go with his E6600. He only runs @ 1440x900 and i did mention that he may be CPU bound. In all the testing he did and myself CPU speed doesn't seem to apply in games. Well it does, but it's more down to the generation of chip than speed.

Have you tried throwing AA and AF up to ludicrously high settings? Try what I recommended in my earlier post and then report back with your results.

Bottleck or not, two of your GPU's are twiddleing their thumbs. I still don't think there's any kind of hardware fault, more than likely they simply haven't got a large enough workload to share. Upping the filtering options should show differences.

im having the same problems i just installed my 2nd GX2 and i see no improvements...have a the latest drivers....i system recognizes the 2nd card....im gonna keep an eye on this thread to see if u guys find the problem.

PS how do i bench mark on crysis? i wanna see if i have the same results as u....in game when stuff gets intense i can see my fps drop to 12 at sometimes....thats just unplayable specially with all the money i have in this damn thing!!

Google Crysis Benchmark Tool and use that, i would be interested in your scores.

I forgot to mention that when i install and test one card, i shut down the system and then install the second card and attach the SLI Bridge. It will go as far as the windows loading screen and black screen on me with a flashing cursor in the the top left of the screen. I then remove the SLI Bridge and the screen comes on and windows continues to load.

I'm seriously thinking my Asus Flexi SLI Bridge is faulty.
