I think a lot of people are missing the point that it wasn't completly intended to make you want to turn off UAC (though obviously that is a side effect). It was more intended to make programmers stop giving elevated rights to a program for no reason. Thus not activating UAC in the first place.

I think it's a good idea except, I think it should work more like a firewall. If you recognize the program you should only have to approve it once. Then it goes into a trusted programs list. Unless it tries to start up a process that it normally wouldn't in which case windows can throw a red flag at you again.

Because most people like to whine on forums for some reason.....

I turned UAC off because I hate it, but I like the idea of scaring people away from control panel and other system options.

If you don't want people screwing with system options and the control panel, just edit group policy or the registry

I swear, this article made me get up, go to the fridge, and get a carrot.

Now that I've puzzled you, i will explain:

Quote:
Microsoft's approach to UAC is a carrot-and-stick way to get developers to adopt Microsoft's latest views on secure application installation and setup, but it does come at the expense of the user experience.
Mmm!! carrots, the baby one cuz I'm too lazy to peel them myself.

I use UAC on my computer and I do not get a prompt on most days. It is a critical security feature and you are foolish if you turn it off.

It makes allot of sense, but UAC isn't annoying to me--at all. I really don't see the issue in clicking something, it only takes 2 seconds and raises security so much its one of my favorite parts of Vista.
