The Journey : Steele84's 1st overclocking experience

Hello everyone, I have been browsing this site on and off for a couple of months now to get a little more familiarized with this site and overclocking. I am 24 years old and live in southeastern Iowa (USA).

I created this thread for a centralized location to learn how to overclock correctly, as well to ask questions about this whole overclocking business. Also show progress in my overclock, clarify some of this computer terminology, and of course get to know some of you outstanding overclockers.

I am not a computer expert but I know a little and am willing to learn as much as possible (hence why I’m here). I am a first time pc builder also, built my first 2 PC’s both in January of this year (o8) and they are up and running with no problems. One INTEL based and one AMD (will get to the particulars later).

I am excited about this project because overclocking is something that I have always wanted to learn, but haven’t had the time or resources to learn it. I am willing to take it slow and learn how to get the most out of this experience. I also know from browsing around this sight that there a tons of people here that are willing to help, give advice, and feedback. With that all said I think it’s time to get this show on the road. Thanks for all the future help and Thanks to the awesome people who developed this site.

Happy overclocking! Keep us informed. Will be an interesting (if not bumpy) ride overclocking your quad on that P5N-E SLI. That board screams "FSB Holes".

THE TOOLS

First off I am going to list off all of the tools that I have installed on my PC and see if you guys can tell me what else I need to download to prepare for a overclock.

CpuZ -
CoreTemp
Orthos - Is there a guide or manual to this thing anywhere ? (I am not sure how it test and what to get out of the results)
Everest Home Edition
GpuZ
3dbenchmark06
riviatuner- this thing totally turns my brain to mush really need a guide to this best.

So that's what I got so far, like I said I'm wanting to know what else to get from to start. Thanks guys ~ STEELE ~

If it were me I'd invest the 100$ and go grab a Gigabyte DS3L or a IP35-E or DFI P35-DK. Will make you not want to strange your computer.
