Psu failing or mobo problem?

Thread Starter
i had some time today so i thought i would test my Ds3r,since im still waiting on the Corsiar psu,i just pulled the one out of dell (265w i think?)..

.i also used the cpu out of the dell (Pentium D 820),and a cheap readon x300,and along with that some G.skill 2x1gb 800 RAM,and an 80 gb seagate HDD.

the only thing not out of the dell is the Ram and mobo,so i thought the PSu could handle it.

i hooked everything up,and booted up for the first time,i saw the Gigabyte screen, and then the vista loading bar...and then right before login screen, there is a pause and then restart.

so i booted up again trying to get into bios, but keyboard dosnt work,i tried usb and ps2,wireless and wired,no luck..after that i just shut it down, and took everything apart.

now do you guys think the restart and keybaord/mouse problem is being caused by a bad mobo,a insufficient psu...or anything else for that matter?

thanks for looking, help will be much appreciated.

Could be an insufficient psu or also could be a bad install of vista, sometimes it will restart on error, but I think it usually will give a BSOD. You may try format and reinstall if it is a fresh install anyway.

You can't use the hdd from your Dell with the DS3 and it expect it to boot.
You'll need to reinstall Windows for the DS3 set up.
Clear CMOS and don't connect the hdd if you wanna just test the DS3.

right, its a dell version of vista,so it will not work on this mobo..duh!..cant belive i didnt think of that.

that explains it not booting into the OS,but will that cause some of the ports not to work?(usb/ps2)

thanks alot for the help guys,i was worried.
