If that is too far over budget, look used or settle with:

The CPU is the one you need to find a deal on. Retail prices can be very high for some of the dual cores. You should be abnle to find a Q6600 or E8400 for $185-$200. Even with a E2xxx overclocked, you will see a vast improvement in performance.

I waqs just wondering as a read this, but is that mobo ready for the e8400 w/o a bios update?

I had the e2180 before this e8400, and I had it overclocked, to 2.95GHz with 1.31v. It was really fast!!

But now that I have the e8400, I can really feel how much of a bottleneck this ram is. I gotta get me a better ram kit some day. But still, the e8400 is noticeably much faster.

I am not sure what BIOS the mobo's are shipping with. The E8400 is nice, but I highly recommend a quad. The lower speed will not be as much of a hinderance and 2 more cores will be a benefit.

Now, most people will say that all you need for gaming is a dual core as there aren't many games out there that utilize all 4 cores. this is true now, but will not be the case as newer games come out.

If you can swing a little extra cash, I would look into an E2xxx and a better GFX card. You will see the most drastic inprovement in gaming with a better card. the CPU will help, but if gaming is you priority, I would lean that way.

Since you need a mobo and CPU, that doesn't leave too much left over for a GFX card. I think you will need to spend a bit more than $100 to get something that will perform better than the 7950 you have already.

In that case, i would look into a Q6600 and P35 mobo. There are some a little less than the DS3L (abit maybe?) but, I would plan ahead. The Q6600 will really shine once you learn how to OC it and you can expect more stable OCs with a slightly better mobo. Also, I would really look used. I just sold a DS3L, E2140 (that can hit 3.5ghz) and 2x1gb ballistix for $160. You can find some really good deals from people upgrading.

Also, keep in mind, you can sell some of you old gear to help fund a new GFX card too. GL

Yes, easily. You should be able to play those games with any C2D or C2Q and that GFX card.

As far as overclocking, you have come to the right place It may take a little bit, but you will learn what to do. there are many guides and such to help, not to mention the wealth of experience the members here have. Most of the P35 mobo'ds (barring DFI) have very basic, easy to use BIOS's, so that is a great board to start with.
