Overclocking Q6600 on stock

Thread Starter
I just got my computer yesterday. Everything I'm using is stock for cooling. I have a one intake and one offtake fan in the case. Also I have an air duct (orginally from the sonata II) above my cpu fan which transfers the warm air out from the cpu and outside of my case.

My current core temp on idle is sitting around 40°c to 45°c. Im a noob to all this overclocking stuff and I want to play it safe coz this is a new computer and all. What is maximum idle temperature I should be looking at and where should I start in overclocking? Is it better to use the software (Asus AI) or Bios to overclock?

If your idle is that high on stock, I don't recommend overclocking at all.

You can probably take your CPU up to 3.0GHz on the stock volts. Shouldn't raise your temps too much, but yes, you do need some after market cooling.

Are you measuring with core temp? Unless your ambient is around 10C then I doubt that.

Overclockin a Q6600 on stock cooling = no no no

And its not the idle temperature you need to be worrying about, its the load temperature thats important
