Vista pricing questions

Thread Starter
I want to get Vista Ultimate, but everytime i look, i come across a few different versions with some pretty different prices:

Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate SP1 English NA DVD - Retail $290
(http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16832116473)

Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate SP1 English NA Upgrade DVD - Retail $200
(http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16832116474)

Microsoft Windows Vista 32-Bit Ultimate for System Builders Single Pack DVD - OEM $170
(http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16832116213)

Is the 1st one the full version, just install and go
Is the second one only usable if you have XP or something?
Why is the 3rd one cheaper - even if its OEM

any clarification would be great thx

all dvd's contain the same information. the first and third are for new pc's with no operating system currently. The first can be used for the lifetime of vista on any hardware, so long as the key is only installed on one machine at a time. the third is locked to the first motherboard it is installed on, so you would have to get a new key if you changed motherboards. The upgrade edition is for going from XP or a lower edition of Vista to Ultimate.

okay, so.. the 1st one i can only have on 1 computer but its transferable
the last definitely isnt for me so thats ruled out

the second one, are you able to install it on more than one computer?

A full install can be done from an upgrade disc on other versions of Vista if done properly. I can't say for a fact that it can be done on Ultimate.

no problem. and yes, i believe the upgrade can follow you around. although if you follow the EULA policy, you would technically have to install an older os first, and then upgrade, but i don't think it's actually necessary
