Slowed Connection, help!

Thread Starter
I am using a Linksys Wireless-N network in my home. Usually, my little network icon in the system tray says I am connected at around 270 Mbps, or even on a slower connection it goes down to maybe 120 or so, I forget the exact number.

However, no matter how many times I repair the connection, I cannot get it to report anything but 1 Mbps. It says the signal strength is excellent and all and I cannot think of any reason why it would be like this. And I noticed that my internet connection is indeed a lot slower. Anyone got any ideas?

The wireless adapter on my computer is a PCI card, and I just installed a new PCI-USB card, but I do not think it would cause any problems.

Yes, WEP secured, and no one else is on it. I suppose I could change the passcode just to make sure it stays secure. But even then, would it cause my connection to drop to 1 Mbps?

I have my 360 and Wii off, so those aren't connecting or anything.. I guess I could try rebooting my router and modem and see if that helps. I'll get back in touch in a few minutes.

Do you have any other slots you could install the PCI-USB card in? maybe it has some sort of IRQ conflict?

Also, is the antenna thats connected to the PCI card nice and tight?

Most of the time, if something changes right after something is installed/removed it's usually something simple.

Start from the most simple things and work from there.

I actually have all my PCI slots filled All three of them. One has a network card in it, the other my USB controller, the other my sound card.

The antennae for the network card is actually a little different than what you normally see. It's a WMP300N by Linksys, so it's has three outputs, and all of them are secured on there.

Just so you can see what I am talking about.

Anyway, I will double check my connections, and even disable the new PCI card and see if that solves anything.

Alright, I completely removed the USB controller and it is still at 1 Mbps. I haven't the slightest clue now as to what it could be... :-\\ Hmm.. Oh well, maybe it'll fix itself, lol I'll wait to hear some more ideas and I will try them out.

Try updating the latest firmware/drivers for the adapter from linksys.

I just Google'd your problem and check out what Amazon reviewers have to say....

Someone there has the same problem as you.
