Can't get 100% utilization folding! help

Thread Starter
i am running 2 instances, installed in 2 different folders, of the folding client (in ubuntu btw)

the problem is i cant seem to get cpu utilisation up past 80% with both terminal windows running. Both have the same config settings (apart from machine id).

please help as i want to give 100% when im not using it.

I'm not sure to be honest, but i know in Arch and Fedora mine was around 90%, max 95% max. 80% seems a little low. What is the usage for 1 instance?

Im not sure how to do it in Linux, but assign each folding process to its own core.

My understanding of the currently Linux client is that you'll never see 100% utilization. Even with less than full CPU usage, it'll still fly.

when i run one i get 50%, so i thought i would have to run 2 to get 100%.

Umm... don't you have a Quad core? You should be running 4 instances...

When I run 4 instances of FAH, I always get 100% utilization.

Yup, thats what it is. When you type the command to run fah6, include: -smp on the end.

You should be running SMP

SMP utilizes all the cores at 100% or close to. Some people with quads run 2 instances for more PPD.

yep, got it now i needed to add -smp on the end of the command.

I do run the 6.00beta1-Linux smp client, so i only have to run 2 instances.

They should really make it so it uses all 4 cores, as alot of people have quad core now
