need help, 790i unlinked memory

Thread Starter
OK, i cannot understand the unlinked memory feature on my XFX 790i motherboard.

I am using the following, Q6600 with GO stepping, XFX 790i ultra, and OCZ DDR3 1600 mhz.

I am currently running a memory multiplier of 2.5. and it works fine with the FSB at about 400 anda 9X multiplier. I would like to run the memory unlinked though with an FSB of 1600 and the ram at 1600 and use an 8X multiplier for 3.2 Ghz. However, when the system restarts after chanign the settings in the BIOS, nothing happens (is this called not posting?).

What do i need to do?

Why dont you just use a 2:1 ratio? (400 mhz fsb : 800 mhz ram)

That should work fine.

to run the ram "unlinked" you go to CPU FSB settings in the BIOS. underneath the FSB setting there is an option to change from AUTO to LINKED or UNLINKED... mine is an evga, but i think the bios is exactly the same for both..

I don't know if it's called "not posting". Do you have anything overclocked. Did it only just start locking up when you set it to unlinked? Vista 32-bit was running ok with 4GB of RAM. I thought only the 64-bit OS ran with 4GB. Try removing 2GB and reboot. If you have anything oc'd reset it to defaults. then start over..
