Hi all.

Got a problem on umbra, sig rig....

i made a .bat file to backup my data, which i do on a regular basis. but for some reason its not working correctly, here is the .bat file content:

Quote:
: BIOSHOCK
xcopy /e /y "C:\\Users\\Dean\\Documents\\Bioshock\\SaveGam es" "C:\\Users\\Dean\\Desktop\\My Stuff\\Games\\Bioshock\\SaveGames\\"

: OBLIVION
xcopy /e /y "C:\\Users\\Dean\\Documents\\My Games\\Oblivion\\Saves" "C:\\Users\\Dean\\Desktop\\My Stuff\\Games\\The Elder Scrolls IV - Oblivion\\Edited Backups\\Saves\\"
xcopy /e /y "C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Bethesda Softworks\\Oblivion\\Data\\Music" "C:\\Users\\Dean\\Desktop\\My Stuff\\Games\\The Elder Scrolls IV - Oblivion\\Edited Backups\\Music\\"

: COLIN MCRAE DIRT
xcopy /e /y "C:\\Users\\Public\\savegame" "C:\\Users\\Dean\\Desktop\\My Stuff\\Games\\Colin Mcrae DiRT\\Backups\\savegame\\"

: GTR2
xcopy /e /y "C:\\GTR2\\UserData" "C:\\Users\\Dean\\Desktop\\My Stuff\\Games\\GTR2\\Backups\\UserData\\"
xcopy /e /y "C:\\GTR2\\Music" "C:\\Users\\Dean\\Desktop\\My Stuff\\Games\\GTR2\\Backups\\Music\\"

: HL2
xcopy /e /y "C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Valve\\Steam\\SteamApps\\deanotik\\half-life 2\\hl2\\SAVE" "C:\\Users\\Dean\\Desktop\\My Stuff\\Games\\Half-Life 2\\Backups\\SAVE\\"
: HL2: EP1
xcopy /e /y "C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Valve\\Steam\\SteamApps\\deanotik\\half-life 2 episode one\\episodic\\SAVE" "C:\\Users\\Dean\\Desktop\\My Stuff\\Games\\Half-Life 2\\Episode 1\\Backups\\SAVE\\"
: HL2: EP2
xcopy /e /y "C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Valve\\Steam\\SteamApps\\deanotik\\half-life 2 episode two\\ep2\\SAVE" "C:\\Users\\Dean\\Desktop\\My Stuff\\Games\\Half-Life 2\\Episode 2\\Backups\\SAVE\\"

: MY STUFF
xcopy /e /y "C:\\Users\\Dean\\Desktop\\My Stuff" "F:\\My Stuff autobackup\\"
as you can see. the batch file is designed to backup my save games to a folder named "My Stuff". this folder is then backed up to an external harddrive.

The "My Stuff" folder is 28GB in size. but after this .bat file is ran, it totals to 22GB on the backup harddrive!.

So what on earth is going on?. anyone got any ideas?.

check out the /c /h /f switches too... also, you can use the start command to init xcopy... you can also log the process by adding ">foolog.txt" at the end of the command...
example

: MY STUFF
start del "F:\\My Stuff autobackup\\My Stuff autobackup log.bak"
start ren "F:\\My Stuff autobackup\\My Stuff autobackup log.txt" "F:\\My Stuff autobackup\\My Stuff autobackup log.bak"
xcopy /e /y /c /h /f "C:\\Users\\Dean\\Desktop\\My Stuff" "F:\\My Stuff autobackup\\" >"F:\\My Stuff autobackup\\My Stuff autobackup log.txt"

you could throw an if exists... but it's not really needed...
