isopropyl alcohol 70% - Page 2

Some of the 70% bottles have color and mint smell added to them.
I wouldn't use that to clean an IHS, so just double check.

They're just being picky. Nail polish remover even works if it has to.

You will be fine.

I've used 70% for years and never had any problems. Only recently did I buy some 90%. The 70% was always easily available at home and I never had a reason to buy some. The 90% is a bit better to me because it drys a lot quicker.

Yea but they all stink equally!

I wouldn't use finger nail polish remover because it will form derivatives of acetic acid and that is not good in the long run for the metal surface. Like previous suggestions, I'd go with the artic silver cleaning kit. Just clean the TIM off first then use the cleaners. But if all you have is 70% alcohol on hand it should work also.

I think as long as all liquids are completely dried before you power up your system you should be fine. If your rig was off and you spilled water on it, I'm sure it would work fine if you let it dry before turning it on.

This is more of a general question: isn't all 70% alcohol the same? I mean, I wouldn't think brand A could be better than brand B.

If you were to ask me, I'd say, "Walgreens is fine, but I've always found them to be a little overpriced. But just a little."

I personally would go with what costs the lowest. And then you just overclock it with more isopropyl alcohol.

i ended up buying a 500ml 99% isopropanol alcohol bottle for 2 dollars (canadian) didn't think they were that cheap.

70% is too much water and will leave spots on the chip. Use at least 90.
