VR-Zone first revealed Nvidia's plan to shift from 65nm to 55nm to lower costs and we have also told you a series of 55nm based mobile graphics GPUs based on G94b and G96b. Now we learned that the first desktop graphics card to be based on 55nm G92b core will be GeForce 9800 GT and it will be launched in July along with GeForce 9900 series. Apparently, GeForce 9800 GTS will be OEM only, not for channel.

Makes me wonder how it will perform.

It's still a rewrapped 8800GT no matter which way you slice it.

With better thermal properties and potentially, more shaders unblocked and better ram (.8ns DDR3/4). Given that, the 9800GT will just be a better 8800GT and will probably scale just as good if not better.

But I thought you're supposed to make changes before you do another die shrink? Intel must be laughing right now...

I'm pretty sure that the g80s/g90s don't support GDDR4, and I doubt they will unlock any shaders on this card, because if they did, with a mild overclock it would outperform the 9800GTX... which is kind of stupid, but then again, nothing from nvidia surprises me anymore
