Dust Free Fans?

Thread Starter
I've got a case cooling question:
Is there a 100% dust-free fan/filter solution?

Something that flatout blocks all dust, or at least prevents all most all dust.
...fan filters block most dust.

It's impossible to block all dust because then it would be air tight as well. Where there is air, there is dust.

The only way you're going to eliminate dust completely is to run your computer in one of those NASA clean rooms.

To help though you can get a case with an intake filter. I know my Centurion 5 has a screen and I think the p180s do as well.

Also keeping your computer off the floor helps, especially if you have carpet.

Fan filters are cheap and can be used for all fans. http://search.store.yahoo.com/cgi-bi...ery=fan+filter Heres a bunch

Thanks for the response. I've got fan filters and they do work fairly well, but, I still find my self blowing out my case once every month or so. I just wish there was something more effective.

Nope as Pook said. 100% dust means no airflow.

Fan Filters are enough though, if you have fan filters on all your intakes you should only need to clean your rig out once or twice a year depending on how picky you are.

If you had the resources, you could make your case completely airtight and run all your intake air through an automotive air filter. That's probably the cleanest you could possibly get the air going into your box...and it's still be only 99% effective. Engines DO have a dust tolerance, so the filters aren't super fine...

Another idea would to just make your computer completely positive (in pressure.) IE, more air out than in. I have built a few rigs that are completely passive, so I'm sure running all your fans in exhaust wouldn't result in that much of a change in temps (maybe 5C tops, worth a try though) but a lot less dust.

Hell, my main rig (when it worked ) rarely had any fans other than the CPU fan running.

You always have the same amount of air going in and out, otherwise you would end up with a vacuum. If air is going out, then air (and dust) is being pulled in.

I have 2 250mm fans on my case that blows everything through and out with force lol
I only have to blow it out once every 3 or 4 months, but this is a dusty area where I live.
