Need help with overclocking HD 2900 Pro!!

Thread Starter
I have a 512mb 512bit Sapphire HD 2900 Pro and have been trying to overclock it for some time. I have already done the research on temperatures and software... the problem is none of the OC programs will work.

I am running Vista x32 Home Premium on Abit AB9 Pro.

Tried ATI tray tools... no luck (sliders reset or comp crashes when clocks are changed... and the default clocks read as 0/0)

Tried ATITool... sliders move but reset. No OC.

There is no "Overdrive" option in my CCC and I am running latest 8.3 drivers.

Am I doing something wrong? All these programs worked fine on my XP hdd.

Help!

Have you tried RivaTuner? Works good for me.

Yes, I have, but I was unsure of what to edit or how to even OC in general with RT.

Is there a guide or a simple explanation for OCing ATI cards with it?

*edit*

found the overclocking section... misleadingly named "low-level tweaks".

Giving it a try now.

Looks like it works... as far as rivatuner goes.

Waiting on 3dmark06 to finish dling so I can see that it's actually overclocked.

Hmm 3dmark06 refuses to launch properly.

It sits there at the "3dmark is scanning your system specifications... this may take up to one minute and your system may not respond" window and just hangs. I am running it as administrator on x32 Vista. Any thoughts?

Also, anyone else who's OC'd their 2900 pro on stock? After reading some of the results around on these forums I am setting mine to 775/875 up from 600/800. Could probably go up to something like 820/927 but not sure if that would be worth it as a performance improvement.

You can enable overdrive in CCC by bridging the two unused holes in the 8-pin PCIE connector to ground.

Yes it would, and electrically it would be the exact same as a real 8-pin connector.

You don't even need that though, you can just bridge the pins with solder on the back of the PCB.

Overdrive works now.
It's not actually overclocking though...

I have rivatuner and overdrive enabled. With one or the other disabled, the clocks in Overdrive still won't change. Yes, I have 2x8pin connectors now.
