Hey everyone, I have a patriot kit of 4 x 1gb ddr 800 ram (4-4-4-12). So, I thought this means that the sticks ran at 800mhz. So, I built my system with a Q6600 and a p35 motherboard and installed cpuz. I saw that the ram was only running at 400mhz and 5-5-5-16. I didn't think too much of it and I then overclocked my q6600 to 3.6ghz and I looked back in cpuz and now the ram is running at 600mhz. How can I get the ram to the full 800mhz at 4-4-4-12? Or, does the 800mhz mean for the dual channel so, 400mhz per stick?
Thanks alot!
Yes, since it is DDR2 RAM, you double the speed of 400MHz, giving you 800MHz, and when you overclock your CPU and your FSB rises, so will your RAM (how much it rises depends on the divider you have). So anyway, everything you've done looks good.
You have the FSB and memory linked, so when you raise the FSB on the CPU the RAM freq. increases. And yes it is double to freq. listed. 1200 MHz? Is it stable that high?
Thanks for your help everyone! Yes, everything seems good. I've been running stable for a week or so. I've tested the cpu many times with prime95. Should I run prime95 on the ram?
How can I test my memory @ 1200mhz/stick to see if it's stable?
Thanks!
By the way it is set to a 3:4 fsb/memory ratio (I didn't set this, i think, it happened automatically).
A run the exact same RAM in my sig. Rig. When I first installed it the bios defaulted to 1.8v and the exact timings you listed. Make sure you manually change it to 2.2v...that's the only way you will stay stable at 4-4-4-12 timings.
I ran the memory test and it said I passed. But, my computer restarts every three days or so if I leave it on consistently. My temps are low on everything but I do not have any software to check the ram temps. I'm thinking the ram may be overheating. Should I get this ram cooler: http://www.xoxide.com/neon-crab-memory-cooler.html
Thanks
Memtest98 should be run for several hours for an accurate test. I personally like to run at least 5-10 full tests before I call it good. Some say do it overnight.
It's never a bad thing to add extra cooling to any of your components...so if you think it may be overheating...go for it.

actually cpuid only reports one channel. since you're probably running dual channel you only see 400Meg. just double what cpuid reports. the ddr2 doesnt have anything to do with it.

Thanks guys, after running memtest a few days ago everything seems ok. My computer has been running for 4 days without a problem with the ram @ 1200mhz. Is it unusual/unsafe to run ddr800 at 1200mhz? I am using a 3:4 fsb to ram ratio.
I would grab a copy of Everest Ultimate and do some memory bandwidth testing, and see if really you're getting increased bandwidth running at 1200MHz, and compare it to its base 800MHz settings.
