should I upgrade graphics card?

Thread Starter
I am running on 1920 x 1080 with 8800gts and on both windows and ubuntu I get grainy resolution that makes pictures distorted, any type of image becomes imperfect. Is my graphics card up to the task of 1920 x 1080 resolution with clear images or should I look into getting a new one?

p.s. I am using DVI to HDMI on a HD TV with 1080p

Are you sure the picture isn't being upscaled to the native resolution of your monitor?

What monitor are you using? It should be crystal clear...

Sorry, missed that you are using an HDTV... For some reason I had the same problem on my 720p hdtv... When I connected the computer via the VGA input on the TV, the picture became as clear as a standard computer monitor.

It's definately trying to scale it to a different res than your TV... Hense the grainy picture, but no that card is very capable of producing the perfect picture. Have you tried some of the HD resolution settings in nvidia control panel?

Your 8800 should be up to the task, but a low quality convector might be the problem.

The best solution is to get a card with HDMI out of course.

It's a sidegrade, at best.

I'd tell you to try an s-video cable but I doubt those things can do 1080p...
