[Project] Building aluminium case from scratch - Page 13

Thread Starter
Because the case is made out of aluminium it is really light. I should put it on the scales when i finished. It is much lighter than my previous modded case (in one of the pictures in the thread when i was transfering over all the hardware) which was an old server case. Including the hardware in this case it would only weigh around 13KG... which isnt bad at all.

Well i put my order in today. Ordered two fans to attach to the heatsinks on my GPU.

Specs:

60mm 18CFM @ 23dB @ 3400RPM
$6.50 AUS each.

Pulled my GPU appart to see what size fan i could mount to the HS's. Thought i better take some pics...

Okay, sure you couldn't have got some 80mm fans and a couple of 60-80mm adapters instead?

DAM! Didnt think of that! I wonder if they have some. I got my geat form www.pccasegear.com.au. I could always change my order. But im not sure if i could mount it very well as there would have to be two side by side.

-Smokie

Edit: I think i will change my order if i can fit two of these on.

I am thinking of getting these fans: http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?...oducts_id=7218

Edit Edit: Is cathode the same as UV? As in will my cathode lights luminate the UV blades?

I knew you were on PCCG, that's why I linked you there with the adapter.

I think the fans should be fine side by side, should be just enough room.

If you want cheaper fans pick the first 3 off this page, I have 4 of the Red ones and they aren't loud, but move the same air as a Kameleon.

Btw, those Kameleon's are still pretty cool.
They can either be "professional" plain black or UV blue. (They don't need a cathode on them, they have UV LED's built in that can be controlled via a switch on the fan itself.)

Now, UV & cathode are 2 different things.
A cathode is a light source, often called a CC (Cold Cathode) or CCFL (Cold Cathode Fluorescent Light). So called for their minimal heat output which is considered Negligible. (i.e Your common house flouro's, unlike an incandescent you can wrap your hand around one and it feels cool.)

That light can either be a Colour of the visible spectrum (In your case blue I believe), or part of the invisible spectrum know as UV. (Ultra-Violet.)
Now some Fans/Mobo's/Connectors are reactive to this light and give off a cool neon glow when exposed to UV. (Under normal light they appear dull.)

Even though the UV cathodes appear to give off visible light it's quite dull and doesn't illuminate well.
So you want Colour Cathodes to light up whole case, and UV to light up certain components. (Which IMO looks cooler.)

All the best!
- James.C

P.S. How did it go with the feet?
And if you have any dust in the HS which you can't vacuum or get out without damaging either get some canned air or one of these.

I still got the led ones. The miter 10 where i live is only small and doesnt have much to offer. They were only $9. I measure up to make sure i can fit the larger fans tomorrow. I cant beleive those fans are only $2!!! That is cheaper than the ones i ordered ($6.50).

Thanks heaps james! +1 Rep

What LED ones? You mean those UV Kameleon's?

The reason those 80mm fans are cheaper is that 80mm is very common (More so than 60mm) so with a higher market more is available for cheaper. (Those 60mm only come in 1 make, so the market is cornered.)
Note* those fans are OEM and come with no screws, if you need screws get them here, Longer bolts found here.

Yeah, $2.00 is awesome, But I might not even need them now, so I might donate to a friend. I also have 8m of u-molding which I might not use.
Don't you just hate it when plans change! :swearing: (For The Better!)

All the best,
- James (Us Aussies gotta stick together mate, there ain't no Newegg for us )
