Nope... I can barely hit 3.6. Some can hit 3.8...

not quite. it doesn't have to do with air cooling or even really much with the q9450.

what you are seeing is motherboards that can't hit 500mhz FSB.

^^ affirmative!

I would say its safe to assume that any 45nm to date, can hit 4ghz. "Noob-clocking" is the biggest problem with 45nm cpu's, as most people dont run @ 500mhz FSB.. so few have the knowledge of how to even get their fancy mobo's stable at those speeds.

Unfortunately all those fancy motherboards can't even reach 500FSB with professional overclockers. You need a P35 that's been stripped down to everything but the essentials. DFI DK P35, and some MSI boards can do 600+FSB with a dual, and 500+FSB with quads.

Blah.. not really. I am no professional and I have had a 500FSB capable mobo for over 2years now.. aka P5B-dlx..[dare I mention the DFI 965-s..?] dual core of course.

You start out on the right track, but then contradict your statement.. 500mhz FSB IS do-able..with Q4 it is still a possibility..and there are plenty of other mobo's out other than a P35 that will hit those clocks. I have already stated the elder [965p] and the later is X38.

I havent done any high FSB testing with the new Rampage X48 or the X3350 I just got my hands on..but I am sure to see higher than ~470mhz FSB [my current highest with my sig'd mobo using a Q6600].

well I have a p5b still I might be able to plug the x3350 in but I think that would be a pointless venture as with a dual it overclocked less then my current board. so with a quad I believe it would be even lower yet.

Yes, but the 45nm cpu's are veeery friendly with a 965 chipset.. You might be surprised. Check over at XS.. folks there have been posting crazy high FSB's with the 965 mobo's and a 45nm cpu.. as for Q4.. you are most likely right, although the P5B-Dlx does hold its own pretty darn good against my P5K3-Dlx.. max FSB has been close enough [using an e6700] that I am still willing to keep the P5B around for testing and bench purposes.-> just my on the matter.
