Interesting problem to have...

So a friend of mine is upgrading his rig and fortunately for me, I am to be the recipient of his mobo and cpu. He's selling me his gigabyte mobo

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813128089

and an e8400 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115037

for $250. It's a pretty sweet deal in my estimation, especially when considering the fact that he's only had them for a few months and I'd almost have to pay double that to get them retail. Also, I've read in no less than 5 threads (pretty much all from Microman) that this mobo is a great overclocker, so I'm pretty stoked about getting one.

Anyway, I have an 8800gts g92 (among other things) coming from newegg in a day or so, and given my new board's crossfire capability I'm wondering if I should opt for an alternative setup (namely, 2 hd3870s).

I pretty much use my computer for gaming and some light video editing from time to time. I'll be playing on a 20" monitor, and I've heard from a few friends and read on these boards that sli/crossfire isn't really worth it unless you're playing at a high resolution.

I'd love to hear some opinions from people who are more knowledgeable on this subject than I. Any and all input is greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

I'm building my friend a pretty good gaming rig next week with 2 8800 GT's, I'd say they are pretty good for gaming and not around the same price as the 3870's with the sales going on at newegg
