XFX GeForce 8500 Fatal1ty

Thread Starter
Ok so i bought this card today
it worked to begin with
but then i found a cable in the package that wasn't doing anything
on the video card there was a socket for the cable to go into and another socket on another part of the video card for it to go into
the manual doesnt say a thing about this
so stupid old me decided to just plug them in - and now ive got a small amount of smoke and a solder smell.
Is my card completely fried?
I don't believe the card works but i'm going to try it again very soon.
Thanks a lot

IF you plugged it in while the pc was running and You smelled solder burning or a Cap, then it most likely is dead. time for RMA i suppose

"Was it the SLI bridge? Burning smells comming from the computer are never a good thing. You should just bring it back and say you plugged it in and it didn't work. Don't just write it off as lost money yet. Or you could sell it on ebay so some poor sap. Maybe you could buy a better video card, then put this one back in the box and bring it back. If you buy it at a place like Best Buy they won't know the difference. Beleive me, I used to work there, they let someone bring back a 9700 Pro ATI card in a x850 Pro box. He got his money back for the wrong old DUSTY burnt out card. LOL!"
