8800GT 1GB, 9800GTX or 9800GX2? - Page 2

either: 9600GT $150, 8800GT $200 8800GTS $250 2x9600GT $300 or 8800GTX $300

i would not get a 9800gtx card, because they cost the same as 8800gtx and are not as good, and 2x9600gt for $150 would come close to 9800gx2 performance for half the cost.

I would say they'd always be better than a 9800GTX, and better than the 8800GTX in probably 95% of real-world gaming situations you could come up with. Particularly if you're talking nicely overclocked 8800GT's.

That is, if you're referring to 'more fps' as meaning 'better'. Some people may have different definitions of the word, though.

How do you figure the 9800GTX are not as good as the 8800GTX? They perform slightly better at lower res, slightly worse at high res, and consume considerably less power. Must have heard that from an 8800GTX owner.

In his case, @1280x1024 the 9800GTX would spank the 8800GTX.

The performance is also good enough to put the 8800 GTS 512 MB out of the running, with a little surprise: Despite an identical GPU and similar throughputs (+4% in the raw-processing-power department, +13% for memory bandwidth), the gain in actual gaming is sometimes as much as 40% (average 13%). That's because the GeForce 8 drivers were older at the time of our test, and will catch up when Nvidia finally gets around to updating them (a beta version of ForceWare 174.74 has just been released).

anything more powerful than 8800GT is waste if playing @ 1280X1024 res
however I would buy a 8800GTS 512MB to be little more future proof

hmm, i see, well, thanks, and i guess i'm gonna have to save $400 bucks before i take a final decision (I have $200 rite now so i'll need that money to get one of those cards, or 2 of them and place 'em in SLI) So, a 9800gx2 would be a waste of money? lol...
Then, we stay with the other 2 options: a couple of 8800GT 512MB in SLI or a single 9800GTX?
Also consider that the lifetime of the 8800gt is about to end so... what do u say?

I think so. I get ~17,300 3dmark with 8800gt sli in sig... I can run crysis at 1368x768 on my projector with high settings, no AA, and get 25fps avg.

Good enough until July when the sky splits open and nvidia's next gen slaps the gx2 into forgotten sand...

I went for th 8800GTS 512 over 9800GTX. It's a perfectly great card and OC's fairly well. It's definitely now proofed.

If your going for the whole SLI thing, go for the 9800GTX x2. I did hear that they scale well. Then again...upgrade your monitor too.

8800gt should be more than enough.. I game at that res in css and Im getting roughly 170 fps consistently... Thats not overclocked at all.. Cod4 at 1600x1200 plays amazingly well too.

I would think 9600 gt's in sli would be very close to 8800gt's in sli since the new 9000's series scales better in multigpu environments. Just a thought I won't back it up though.
