Memory Upgrade..Help Me Choose!!

Thread Starter
Hi all,

Ok, I've just decided I want to get new memory and stop messing around with the value select crap I got (see sig). My goal is to have my CPU at 3.2 - 3.4 (400-425FSB) final OC once I get a new cooler so I want memory that will support that and maybe a little more. I want my ratio at 1:1 or my memory to be slightly higher via unlinked.

So, what to get?

1. Do I go for 2x1gb or 2x2gb (mind you I have Vista Premium 32)?
2. Do I go for 6400 (800mhz) or higher?

Basically, I want the most bang for the buck and am not sure if more memory or higher mhz will be better for my rig (must play nice with my stuff too). I am willing to spend upto about $100 US on this. Recommend away please and thanks in advance!!!

If you just do 3.4G under 1:1,which is around 850Mhz. Any 2x2GB DDR2-6400 ram from GSkill, Crucial, OCZ and Geil should be fine.

Thanks linskingdom, that was the info I was looking for. I will be going to my Microcenter after work today (gots me a gift certif.).

Between the following memory they carry, which one would you guys go for:

Ballistix 2GB PC-6400 DDR2 Memory Kit (Two 1GB DDR2-800 Memory Modules)
http://www.microcenter.com/single_pr...uct_id=0286647
$49 (but I will need to see if they have 2x2GB kits)
Crucial Memory
Mfr Part Number: 649528730695
2.2v
4-4-4-12

Vista Performance 4GB PC-6400 DDR2 Memory Kit (Two 2GB DDR2-800 Memory Modules)
http://www.microcenter.com/single_pr...uct_id=0264253
$79 (I have Vista but is this a gimmick?)
OCZ Technology
Mfr Part Number: OCZ2P8004GK
2.1v
5-4-4-15

SLI-Ready Edition 4GB PC-6400 DDR2 Memory Kit (Two 2GB DDR2-800 Memory Modules)
http://www.microcenter.com/single_pr...uct_id=0285948
$99 (but I don’t use SLI and don’t plan too…also, is this a gimmick?)
OCZ Technology
Mfr Part Number: OCZ2N800SR4GK
2.1v
5-4-4-15

If I can't find the Ballistix with 2x2GB then I am leaning towards the Vista Performance by OCZ.

Comments please! Thanks!!

why would you get 4gb of ram with 32 bit vista? That's rediculous. Just get a 2x1 gb kit of the ballistix, they'll be fine for ~850mhz.
