GPU folding is worth it. Heres why: - Page 3

Well, folding on multiple 3870s is working now in XP, but not Vista (code bug, fixed soon) so that is a good initial indicator. It's a bit tricky because the client looks at the active display devices in Windows, and the X2 only looks like one active display device. So X2 does run at least one client now.

Obviously with Tri-Core and Quad-core 38xx and 4xxx cards in the works, this is high on the priority list. Like usual, Stanford doesn't give ETAs.

So I made some changes to the computer settings. Tightened up my RAM timings and adjusted the GPU OC. This is my math for the points:

No GPU Folding:
11|12 min duel VMware+Ubuntu
2 WUs in 19.1 Hours
3520points/19.1hours = 4446points/24hours
Thus yielding 4446PPD.

With GPU Folding:
15|16 min duel WMware+Ubuntu
1min10sec for GPU folding
2 WUs in 25.8hours
CPU: 3520points/25.8hours = 3274points/24hours
GPU: 97points/1.94hours=1200points/24hours
Thus yielding 4474PPD.

Right now the GPU folding only uses around 50% of my gpu according to riva tuner. Once they release the next version (which is suppose to be able to use the gpu fully) the points will see a much larger increase.

Did anyone got a WU bigger than 5000 on the GPU2?

I have a WU in the log file that broke up on 9% with 'huge' duration between every percentage...

I'm also getting them now ;o)

Sadly they all EUE.
Even after 70%.
Even you get some percentage of the points I can't see why a broken work is useful...

Im using points as a reference for output. I am not looking at this because I want more points, I am looking at this because I want to output the most.

For the people that use gpu folding how much of the CPU does it use for you? It uses about 10% for me. IS there something I need to change?
You are outputting more... You just aren't getting rewards a lot of "points" because of how quickly it is calculating data.

You're doing a whole lot, but it seems like all you care about is points..

Broken WUs can be the most useful of all! They allow Stanford to back track and see what happened. If one user consistantly has problems while others don't, it is likely that that one person has an unstable system, and the data discarded. On the otherhand if everyone sends back the same WU broken at the same point then it is very likely a program error, which can be corrected to get more useful data. Remember this is a Beta client after all!

The best lessons come from mistakes.

Very wrong. I fold for a bigger reason. I made the wrong assumption that points were directly correlated to output.

I've been getting (and completing, I might add) a TON of 10k WUs lately. They take a day to completed (as opposed to 3-4 hours for a 5k WU) but give almost 600 points each time one is finished.
