Just thought I would update this old thread, I was able to successfully softmod a 2600 XT to a 5600 Firegl, & it works great. I had a real 5600 Firegl at my new job so was able to run Specviewperf benches on the real & compare to the softmod, the 2600 benched just under the real Firegl, sweet success!!! FYI, I am now using a 1700 Quadro at work now, the real 5600 & my softmod one both beat the Quadro in benches & seat of the pants feel. I'm running solidworks on both by the way. I'm now thinking about trying to softmod a 3870 or 4870, they both have counterpart gaming cards with the same processor ID.
At work we build big assemblies (thousands of parts) & am wondering if a 1 GB 4870 would handle the huge assemlies better than the 1700 Quadro. I have attached a couple of models rendered in Photoview 360 plugin in Solidworks, the loader is one of the smaller products we build, I didn't spend much time modeling the truck itself, but the loader is our current production model. The Warthog is something I was playing around with at home this morning, not my model but thought it was a cool render, didn't spend much time detailing the render either, just some trial runs.Edited by Cvalley75 - 5/9/09 at 2:55pm
